Description

Book bound in in green morocco with a little door which can be opened and incorporating a reducing lens, with a white fabric rabbit on the reverse. Contained in a box with green-marbled paper, green leather spine and velvet inside.

Materials and techniques

Bound in green morocco onlaid with suede, vellum and velvet, with a little door made of card, vellum and paper, and a small brass handle, incorporating a reducing lens. On the reverse of the book is a white fabric rabbit. The endpapers are illustrated in pen and wash in the style of Tenniel, on handmade paper. Tooled on the back and Alice lettered in blind. Handmade paper flyleaves.

Maker's statement

Another example of how I approach a binding, for each book is different. This one was intended as a companion to "Alice through the Looking Glass" and in doing it I found a similar grid used by Tenniel which gives a link between the two, as well as his drawing and imagery on which the bindings were based.
