Maker's statement

From longer statement in Purchase File: ....The project was full of discoveries. when letter forms were lengthened, fragmented and simplified, they still remained identifiable. Letters are such strong abstract symbols that they adapt well to inventive experimentation. This series of work began in 1980 and through the years a variety of explorations from writing upside down (making letter strokes from bottom to top), to mass densities that were nearly black, to various compositions and now this latest piece which explored more colour and texture is one of my most successful.
