Description
Triangular shaped column with one side cast and polished to give a blue green surface. The top is cast and polished. The two sides are very smooth glass.
Materials and techniques
Optical crystal (BK7), copper powder for patina. Kiln cast glass by lost wax technique, ground polished and sandblasted.

Maker's statement
After long envolvement with natural forms and materials I was exploring materials that had been worked on by human hands in the past and eroded by weather and time. I was fortunate to be given access to the outside of Gloucester Cathedral which was being restored and took silicone moulds from high on the building. I am intrigued by the link to craftsmen of long ago whose hands formed the stone. It evokes unknown lives and makes a link across the centuries. The piece is cast in optical glass for the clarity and purity, lack of distortion and retractive properties which give it inner space as well as outer form.
