Description

Wooden folk toy consisting of a red propellor attached to the end of a notched stick, jointed at an obtuse angle to a blue handle. A separate hand-held stick is used to rub the notched section of the toy and turn the propellor.

Materials and techniques

Painted and varnished wood; sawn and planed softwood; notches carved with knife; some drilling.

Part of my making is related to traditional folk toys - the ideas are traditional - I do my own version The Foxfire group in America is an organisation that encourages folk and ethnic customs.
