Maker's statement

The design was the starting point in my development of a range of 3-dimensional wallpapers. It has led to many other designs using similar techniques for applying objects to wallpaper.

This design was inspired by an image of fashion designer Betsy Johnson's New York bedroom, featured in a late 1990s UK Elle Decoration magazine. The room had a lot of 1920s sequinned flapper dresses hanging on the walls. I wanted to recreate the glamour of the image but in wallpaper format.

I enjoy how I can control the design now -- I can pattern with it and use the light reflections from the sequins to affect nearby surfaces, carrying the design beyond its borders.
