Maker's statement

The starting point for these brooches was to represent a curved line that would flow to create the design. Up till then all my designs had used straight lines and solid blocks of colour. In fact these new designs are also made up of solid blocks of colour and it is the way they are fitted together that implies an Arabesque looping. But it is the starting point that is different: the arabesque is drawn out first as the design, while before i would construct the design from little cut out random elements.
