Description

Candy-shaped painted wooden beads on thread, with a metal clasp.

Materials and techniques

The pieces are cut from birch ply, birch a ramin dowel and square section wood, drilled and rubbed down. They are then primed and rubbed down again. Wherever there are two or more colours on the square ones, these are masked off and one colour painted. Then the masking tape is removed and other colours painted. Each bead has three coats of paint for each colour, varnished, and then threaded up to make the necklet.

'Sugary' quality obtained by coating wet varnish with white glitter and varnishing again for protection.
