Description

Ball of porcelain with a pinched rim, moulded towards a central point to form a narrow opening.

Materials and techniques

Porcelain, with semi-matt glaze and green and brown marks on rim. Hand-modelled by pinching the form out of one ball of clay. Biscuit fired at 960 deg. C; glazed and fired at 1300 deg. C.

Maker's statement

I was exploring the fluid qualities and plasticity of hand modelled porcelain making, and noticing forms in nature which could be translated into terms of clay and glaze. Exploring ways in which a permanent record (fired clay) could be made of transient natural forms.
