Description

Porcleain bowl with an uneven rim and a narrow foot, semi-matt white glaze decorated with black, green and brown oxides.

Materials and techniques

Oxidised porcelain with semi-matt white glaze and decorated with oxides; black, green and brown. Hand-modelled by pinching the form out of one ball of clay. The oxides painted on to the raw clay before firing. Biscuit fired at 960 deg. C; glaze fired at 1300 deg. C more than once.

Maker's statement

In this piece I was using the naturally fine and translucent nature of fired porcelain in a way which hopefully echoes the forms in nature which have similar qualities, such as shells and some flower cups.
