Description

Oxidised porcelain bowl with a narrow base, predominantly white glaze green spiralling lines.

Materials and techniques

Oxidised porcelain with semi-matt white glaze and decorated with copper oxide. Hand-modelled by pinching the form out of one ball of clay; the foot ring added separately. The oxide painted onto the raw clay before firing. Biscuit fired at 960 deg. C; glaze fired at 1300 deg. C more than once.

Maker's statement

I have used the way in which the coloured oxides naturally flush through the translucent walls of the porcelain so that the spiral painted on the inside of the pot is shown in reverse on the outside.
