Description

Egg-shaped porcelain form on a narrow base with an uneven 'cracked' rim, with a green and brown spotted glaze.

Materials and techniques

Oxidised porcelain with semi-matt white glaze and decorated with oxides; green and brown. Hand-modelled by pinching the form out of one ball of clay. The oxides painted onto the raw clay before firing. Biscuit fired at 960 deg. C; glaze fired at 1300 deg. C more than once.

Maker's statement

This is one of the first pieces in which I was developing my method of painting the colours on in a pointillist manner so as to mix and blend them and give depth and richness to the surface, and throughout the body.
