Maker's statement

This is one of a kind of family of large bowls, of which I make a small number every year, which are meant for occasional or "ceremonial" use, but from the making point of view are all non-repeatable ways of enjoying this large surface with brush and colour. The large bowl is for this technique (brush-painted the glaze) the nearest my work comes to an abstract object without function, and in this sense it leaves the maker very free, while __? a ceramic vessel.
