Description

Tin-glazed earthenware bowl with a broad rim painted in red/brown smoke lustre glaze.

Materials and techniques

Tin-glazed earthenware with broad rim painted in smoke lustre glaze; brown and red. Thrown. Opaque tin glaze fired at 1050 deg. C in wood fired kiln and refired for the lustre reduction at 670 deg. C.

Maker's statement

It is an example of a form made for painting, but in this case the painting is confined to the off-round broad rim, and is thus complementary to the fully painted other pieces in the collection.
