Description

Thrown porcelain cup with a pulled handle and a saucer with turned feet. Sgraffito decoration through a blue slip glaze, a single banded line below the rim of the cups and then banded lines on the saucers.

Materials and techniques

The decoration is drawn on the raw work at the leather hard stage and then bisque fired. The clear glaze is then applied to the inside of the cup and bottom of the saucer and fired to 120 deg.C in an oxidising atmosphere. All glaze is banded on except for the outsied of the cups which are dipped.

These are typical of current work with an emphasis on achieving a balance between form and surface decoration. They are also representative of my philosophical and practical commitment to pottery and the significance of function.
