Description
Satin and cotton rug, with a dye-splattered surface in purple and orange, quilted green, red and blue thread.
Materials and techniques
Satin with dye-splattered surface; cotton wadding and calico backing. Design built up by using Fablon or masking tape to resist the spatter of dye. The cloth is steamed to fix the dye, then washed and ironed before being layered with wadding and backing fabric, and machine-quilted. It is then pinned out on to wet paper to stretch, flatten and wet-finish it.
