Description

Silk scarf, cream-coloured with a fringe, with a relief on surface.

Materials and techniques

The cloth is woven using silk high twist yarn (in the gum) on a power dobby loom. After weaving the fabric is scoured to degum and relax it, and then tumbledried to maximise the relief of the surface. The fabric shrinks to approximately half its original size during these finishing processes.

Maker's statement

The structure, surface and feel of a fabric are my starting points when designing. This piece is from my silk crepe collection, which has a theme of surface relief, that has been an ongoing line of development over the last 10 years.
