Maker's statement

The work is part of a series which draws on ideas concerning the seductiveness of the written word and its ability to persuade and deceive, on the silencing of those who are unable to decode it, and on the links between text and textile. As a text might be unpieced and reworked, so are these pieces. The setting of this particular piece into a corner is an allusion to being sent as a child to read quietly in a corner "to be seen not heard".
