Description

One length of machine-knitted wool tube in numerous bright colours, woven together.

Materials and techniques

Machine knitted wool tube with Dacron filling, in 11 colours according to a number system. Ends grafted to make invisible join. Made on old stocking machine, hand operated. A prototype designed for semi-skilled assistance.

Maker's statement

Important. Other structures, numerical organisations were to follow. Some resulted in wall pieces - as in the Jesus Centre, B'ham.

But this piece was an early one - the 2nd floor pad (the first was a big one in the V&A "Craftsmans Ark" exhibition to be made, and the first one in which the colours were organized by numerical system. Later ones were structured (physically) more tightly.
