Brief history
The Council of Industrial Design (CoID) – now the Design Council – opened the Design Centre in 1956 at 28 Haymarket Street, London, to provide a permanent public space in which to present a standing display of contemporary British design, along with a changing programme of themed special exhibitions. In 1971, The CoID collaborated with the Crafts Council to open a Crafts Shop there.
