Maker's statement

The Banksia vessel is a wild flower from Australia discovered by Joseph Banks. Naturally the Banksia has a beautiful texture and when I work with the material; it’s simply about embracing the intrinsic beauty of the wood and enhancing the material. The Banksia is an exploration of the 3 different layers of the material; the first layer being the crispy texture, the second layer being the velvet almost felt texture and finally the third layer which has a wood texture and is the core of the material. Inspiration for the project include Ghanaian Art and the rawness of textures and nature in it’s natural element which is full of complex design and texture.
