Description

Poster for 'Beauty and the Beast: New Swedish Design', a Crafts Council exhibition held at the Crafts Council Gallery, 44a Pentonville Road, London, from 18 November 2004 to 6 February 2005, then toured until April 2005. Frith Kerr, designer, in speaking about the poster design said that the key theme of the language about the exhibits in the show 'emerged around how dominant nature is in the Swedish way of life. The land is full of trees, and chopping logs for a fire is a part of everyday life'. The designers took this idea and created simple shapes that appeared as if an axe had cut through them. These bold, imperfect splinters of shapes were then piled up to create letterforms called 'Timber Type' for the exhibition and imagery for posters. The exhibition was curated by Lesley Jackson. The poster was designed by Frith Kerr.
