Glenys Barton

Brief biography

Glenys Barton was born in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, in 1944. She attended the Royal College of Art between 1968 and 1971. Since the 1980s Barton’s work has focussed on the human form and in particular, the head. She works mainly in ceramics, experimenting with surface finishes and industrial ceramic techniques. Having been represented by Flowers Galleries since 1974, Barton has been exhibited widely, including two significant retrospectives of her work in 1997 at the National Portrait Gallery (‘Glenys Barton Portraits’) and Manchester Art Gallery (‘Dreaming Edge - Sculpture by Glenys Barton’) respectively. Her work is included in a wide range of public and private collections, including the collections of National Museums Scotland, Edinburgh, The British Museum, London, and Stockholm City Museum, Sweden. Barton currently lives and works in Essex.
