Materials and techniques
The banksia vessel is turned on a lathe using chisel and a gouge. It’s a gradual process as I carve in to the wildflower which has wood characteristics. Once the outside of the banksia vessel is carved and shaped, I use a hollowing tool to hollow, thinning the walls of the vessel.

Maker's statement
The Banksia vessel started my career , I call it my first album, it’s my foundation and enabled me to develop my making ideology of playing with the layers of the material.
Ultimately what inspires me is nature; It’s the little things we grow accustomed to, the intricate grain on your door house, the bark on a tree and the variation in textures on pavement. Inspiration is all around us and it’s about being open to it, I believe nature has a way of vandalizing what has been manufactured, it’s like a flower that grows through concrete pavement, it shouldn’t be there, but it is with it’s overpowering beauty which shines so bright, a juxtaposition almost.
