Description

Book, containing eight coloured block prints with text on hand-made folded buff paper.
Block printed page showing a female figure between lace curtains. Text reads:
The lady of the house begins to
feel rather alone. She looks out
fearfully into the quiet, grey street.
But everything seems normal.

Materials and techniques

The eight blocks were made from odds and ends of waste material. Recycled material mounted on blocks, varnished and then printed on home made press.
A study in free inking. A circle of bevelled glass from which a fluid ink is squeezed.
The same glass [as Block 1] carefully cracked, the pieces slightly opened out before printing.
Figure cut out of thin card and mounted. Lace curtain etc., stuck on. Intaglio.
Natural wood grain as tone and texture. Whites cut away, darks painted on. Leafage added.
Birds of card and crepe paper. Wire mesh impressed into card and removed. Intaglio.
Card cut through with knife and contours lifted for lights. Intaglio.
Card-cut. Combined intaglio and letterpress, with lateral shift between impressions.
Disk inked with brush. Background lightly sprayed with petrol before printing.
