The Royal Charter of Incorporation of the Crafts Council of England and Wales, lettered (calligraphy) on six sheets of vellum. Sealed with Royal Seal and framed.
Materials and techniques
Calligraphy/lettering fine; six sheets of vellum graduated in size, folded under as a gathering along the bottom edge, joined together by red and yellow silk cords, and sealed with the Great seal of the United Kingdom. Written in black Chinese stick ink, gouache, and vermillion stick ink and decorated with raised and burnished gold, powder gold, gouache and watercolour. The border was produced by stamping the stepped edges of the sheets with gouache using a rubber stamp and adding touches of gold by hand. The sheets are fixed to the support with gold-headed pins placed to form an integral part of the border.
