Leather mug moulded on archetypes of mass-producion such as cola bottles or annoymous pound-shop 'trash'. Commissioned by Northampton Festival as part of the 2010 project Industrial Makeshift, it is one of the 400 handcrafted objects sold through a customised vending machine for £3.
Materials and techniques
Made by medival armour-making technique in which vegetable tanned leather is moulded and irreversibly hardened using moisture and heat. The leather is removed from the mould after controlled drying and is trimmed and lined with PU resin before final heat stamping the project name, the maker's name, abbreviated year ('10) and other details on it.
