Materials and techniques
Novus 508F is a tough flexible fabric made from a herringbone weave flame retardant rayon cloth, laminated to polyester film, aluminised both sides. Novus 580F is manufactured from F. R. Viscose which is cellulosic fibre incoporating flame retarding agents.
The fabric is non-flammable and suitable for tempatures up to 200 degrees celcius (except naked flame/molten metal splash). Thermal protective index; radiation 350 seconds. Cellulosic fibres decompose to give mainly carbon dioxide and water with additional sulphur dioxide and phosphorus compounds from the flame retarding agents.
