Maker's statement

Due to this piece being round and the prominence of its rings, I wanted to create a design that complimented this. Whilst stitching the piece I left it overnight and came back to find it had split (due to drying out too quickly). At first I found this annoying, but over time I have come to appreciate the freshness of the new wood that is now visible, and the splinters of wood that are still trying to join one side to another. I also quite like the way in which the split disrupts the otherwise seamless passage of the arrows.
