Description

Abstract-shaped steel brooch with a predominantly white body with black spots, and assorted abstract embellishments coloured in black, blue and red.

Materials and techniques

'I use steel as the base in all my pieces, for its strength and beautiful subtleties of colour. I then enamel with deep, rich colours which contrast with the blackness of the oxidised steel. After firing, the enamel is worked with acid or sand-blasted to give a matt finish, which I find more appealing than a high gloss.'

Maker's statement

This series of brooches involved bringing many seperate enamelled elements together to form a sort of 'layered' effect. The forms are also more organic than previously.
