Description

Oxidised procelain bowl with a narrow base, semi-matt white glaze with dappled oxide decoration in green, blue and brown.

Materials and techniques

Oxidised porcelain with semi-matt white glaze and decorated with oxides; dappled green areas outlined in blue. Hand-modelled by pinching the form out of one ball of clay; the foot ring added separately. The oxides are painted onto the raw clay before firing. Biscuit fired at 960 deg. C; glaze fired at 1300 deg. C more than once.

Maker's statement

It is one of the first pieces made in which I am using the natural translucency of the porcelain to create layers and depths of colour similar to polished sliced stones such as agate. My bursary year has been partly granted in order to develop these qualities.
