Description

Oxidised porcelain bowl with a narrow base and a glaze with blue dots and green speckles.

Materials and techniques

Oxidised porcelain with semi-matt white glaze and decorated with oxides; blue and green. Hand-modelled by pinching the form out of one ball of clay. The foot ring added separately. The oxides painted on to the raw clay before firing. Biscuit fired at 960 deg. C; glaze fired at 1300 deg. C more than once.

Maker's statement

I was, by painting the oxidess in a pointillist manner, trying to get the effect of dappled sunlight through trees. And, by leaving small areas uncoloured, gaining the maximum intensity of the light passing through these translucent glazed areas in the porcelain.
