Description

Stoneware pot predominantly red and shaped in an upward twist, on top of a stand, predominantly red and shaped like a four legged stool with a pointed protrusion from under the base.

Materials and techniques

Buff stoneware textured using a plaster of Paris rolling pin. The form was arrived at by making a paper model, sections of which were used as templates to cut out the already textured clay. The legs of the stand were made by rolling clay around wooden dowel. Glazed and slipped, with repeated firings to 1260 deg. C.

Maker's statement

This piece is one of a pair. The other was bought from the Crafts Council Shop at the V & A by the Contemporary Arts Society. Since making these two pieces I have made fewer pieces on stands. They were the only ones I made using that particular shape.
