Description

Stoneware pot with a narrow base that widens and evens out towards the rim, with a brown and white glaze.

Materials and techniques

Coiled stoneware, surface worked on throughout its making, by beating and impressing with textured wood. Raw-glazed using underglaze colours. Glazed in layers and fired to cone 7 in an oxidising kiln (1220 - 1230 deg. C)

Maker's statement

This pot was an early experiment using earthenware clay in combination with stoneware, exploiting its dark high-fired colour and tendency to crack and bloat.
