Description

Earthenware plate with collaged lustre decoration.

Materials and techniques

High fire white, high lime earthenware. The maker's own formular containing local marl. Wheel thrown with a turned foot ring. Biscuit firing to 1000 deg.C. Glaze firing to 1170 deg.C. Reduction furing to fuse in-glaze, on glaze and underglaze lustres to 750 deg.C.

Lustre colours produced by combinations of gold (sodium tetrachloro aurate), gold/silver, gold/copper, silver/copper. Fired in on-glaze formulations (maker's own recipes), in slip formulations. Fired in special kiln under powerful reduction conditions.

This piece is very representative of my work and was one of the best pieces made in 1992 and typical of that period.
