Maker's statement

The majority of my work is based around the functional object as I like the idea of them being equally usable and decorative. These shapes are a result of looking and feeling a variety of historical pieces from the elegance of early Wedgewood/Limoges to medieval pots. The shape of each piece is decided before I make, but I let the process of slab and coil influence the result. The decoration is mainly drawn frommy environment and experiences with different places I visit. They are extensions of my sketch books which I use to record things I see. These two pieces were the result of a hot holiday in the Bahamas where the foliage was bright and the colour clear. In a way my pieces act as a visual diary.
