Maker's statement

A continuation of the use of fabric To create images springing from memories, imagination and observation. This particular piece carries a direct reference to the preliminary techniques used to build up a patchwork quilt, the freedom of composition this technique allows, here, used to make a purely pictorial object. The subject matter was inspired by new seedling beds seen at Kew Gardens, the colours by a page in a sample book of Indian fabrics. The combination of these ideas develops the abstract construction of colour, line, and mass as a format within to depict pictorial representational subjects in fabric my preferred medium.
