Description
Tall oval-shaped oak vessel with a dark stained base and a white limed upper portion with horizontal ridges.
Materials and techniques
Seasoned straight grained English oak. Rough-shaped on bandsaw. Carved with side-axe, paring along grain. Final shaping with gouges, ridged surface uses 1/4" no 7 gouge. White portion is the limed white, and very lightly burnt using a torch. Black portion scorched and then waxed. The whole is then brushed.

Maker's statement
The striped vessels are a series developing earlier 'limed oak vessel' series. The shape has a narrower top, to form a more focused mouth and the ridges themselves are lightly scorched to make the texture more dramatic and better integrate textured and smooth areas. The range has been developed since May 1998.
