Description

Chair with a solid oak body, with four legs and a square opening in the back.

Materials and techniques

Machined from solid oak using templates on a spindle moulder. Each layer is finger jointed, verticals to the legs are reinforced with steel dowel. The finishing is done by hand with scrapers, belt sander and sanding drums mounted on a jig for the interior radii. The finish is oil. Original work was made in 1999.

Maker's statement

I made this in Daniel Lacey's workshop and with his help. I used to employ him as a cabinet maker (we were contemporaries when studying at Parnham College) and he worked for me when I first developed this chair.
