Description

Five carved wooden male figures sit at a narrow bench each wearing a pale linen jacket, shirt, bow tie and pocket square. From left to right the figures are depicted stirring coffee, smoking a cigarette, looking at their nails, scratching their head, and erasing their work. The mechanisms are exposed beneath the bench.

Materials and techniques

Figures made from limewood with bamboo pivots. Painted with acrylic paint. Outer case of Baltic pine; machine chassis of beech. Gear wheels and cams of plywood with steel pins. Small turned objects from pearwood, tiny bits of boxwood and ebony. Lime shavings used for pieces of paper. The steel shafts run in brass bearings. Perspex cover.
