Description
Female figure on a wooden platform reading a book. The figure wears a hat with a nest and three birds, and is painted in dark colours. The poem in the book reads: 'I believe that at the end of the valley I shall come to the edge of light.'
Materials and techniques
The figure and the base are made from carved wood (sycamore & pine) painted with acrylics & stains, finished in matt varnish. The wreath worn by the figure is made from wood, cotton & horsehair decorated with acrylics & stains - matt varnish. The book has wooden covers decorated with stains, acrylics and tissue paper. The pages are made of calico and tissue paper.
