Maker's statement
The piece is to be viewed in two ways - with the flat side up, and with the flat side down. This is for a number of reasons:
- I love my pieces being handled, turned and flipped.
- The rough texture of the clay contrasts to the surprisingly smooth finish of the flat surface (I make it perfectly level and in doing so expose the hidden 'grog')
- The piece has a city-scape appearance when flat side is down, and is more abstract with flat side up.
- And the legibility of the piece also changes as the piece is moved.
