Content

The sculptor Glenys Barton (b. 1944) talks to the First Decade Curator Gloria Lin about the early stages of making bone china pieces, her involvement with Wedgwood and the intentions behind her objects held in the Crafts Council Collection. Barton emphasises that her abstract objects should always be open to personal interpretation, describes how her work was heavily influenced by her time as a Crafts Council representative in Mexico, where she climbed the ancient pyramids, and reveals her obsession with the author J. G. Ballard. Her detailed discussion of these influences and her making process brings new depth to her work and provides a clear picture of her working habits and thought processes.
