Content
Renowned quilt maker Pauline Burbidge's intricate stitch work began in a book shop on Portobello Road, where she discovered a classic book on quilt making and suddenly realised her life-calling. In this 2015 First Decade interview, Burbidge talks about her early involvement with the Crafts Council, her work inspirations and transformations, a growing public interest in textiles during the 70s and the importance of Art College to her success. She speaks to First Decade Project Curator, Gloria Lin about her experiences, and details how she struggled through the first years of making, with her breakthrough works in the late 70s supported by a setting up grant from the Crafts Council.
