Title
Poster, Influential Europeans in British Craft and Design
Date
1992
Description
Poster for 'Influential Europeans in British Craft and Design', a Crafts Council exhibition held at the Crafts Council Gallery, 44a Pentonville Road, London, from 16 April to 14 June 1992, then toured regionally. The exhibition showed work of over 300 designers who were 'foreigners' when they first arrived in England. Gillian Naylor reviewed the exhibition in Crafts and said that 'the exhibition, although devoted to the 'influential European', presents an interesting perspective on British ideals for craft and design this century. It provides an opportunity to reassess the modernist aspirations of the thirties, and their survival in the fifties; and presents contemporary craftsmanship in a new light'. Designed by John Rushworth, Pentagram, the poster features Erik de Graaff's Boxchair #3 (W33). Photography by Steve Rees.
